Twin Turbos on a Power Stroke! Yes, these actually are called 'Twin" Turbos. There are 2 different types of twin set-ups, however. There are 'Compound' twin turbos (my set-up), where the compressor outlet of a high volume large turbo feeds another, smaller turbo to 'compound' the air charge even more. And there are 'Series' or 'Parrallel' twin turbos, where basically there's 1 turbo mounted on each head in a V-8 motor. Gas motors use the Series set-ups, whereas Diesel benefit more form Compound Twin Turbos. A big thanks goes to John Anderson (Johnboy) for being the Pioneer on this type of project on a Power Stroke and sharing his project with all of us. In that same spirit, I threw some pics together to be able to share what I did. My only references for information for doing this project were some posts on TheDieselStop.com, and a couple pics John had posted on his site. Everything for these projects, except the braided SS oil supply line, was designed and built by me. I now have done 3 different Compound Twin Turbo set-ups. The first utilized a Holset HT3B feeding an oem Power Stroke turbo. The second had the HT3B feeding a Holset H2E. The third and most recent has a Sledgehammer Turbo from River City Turbo feeding the H2E. Pictures of my first set-up can be seen here: Twins #1. Pictures of my second set of twins can be seen here: Twins #2. Pictures of my most recent twin turbo set-up can be seen here: Twins #3. |
